The inhabited fairly large island of Belle-Île-en-Mer is located in the country of France, Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 12.2 km. The surface-area of the island is 86.9 km2 and is therefore 0.229 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Bay of Biscay and the total coastal length is about 82.2 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 17 km by 9 km (maximum width). The island is Northwest - Southeast oriented. The highest point is 71 meter. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 47.33 (47°19'37.6176), -3.18 (-3°10'37.2036).

The population is 5120 and the population density is thus on 60 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²). The island is located in the West of the country France.
