The inhabited very large island of Iceland (local name Ísland) is located in the country of Iceland, Northern Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 980 km. The nearest (main) land is Norway and is not the country to which the island belongs. The surface-area of the island is 99791.8 km2 and is therefore 262.8 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Atlantic Ocean and the total coastal length is about 15138.8 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 516 km by 311 km (maximum width). The island is West - East oriented. The highest point is 2110 meter and is named Vulkaan Öræfajökull 2110. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 65.12 (65°7'26.5368), -18.25 (-18°14'52.9296).

The population is 318452 and the population density is thus on 3.1 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²). The capital of the island is Reykjavík (located in the Southwest of the island). Other places on the island are: Akureyri (N), Kopavogur (ZW), Egilsstadir (O). The island is located in the Center of the country Iceland.
