Description island Lampedusa

The inhabited island of Lampedusa is part of (the island group) Pelagie Islands and is located in the country of Italy, Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 128 km. The nearest (main) land is Tunesia and is not the country to which the island belongs. The surface-area of the island is 20.1 km2 and is therefore 0.053 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Mediterranean Sea and the total coastal length is about 44.4 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 10.9 km by 3.4 km (maximum width). The island is West - East oriented. The highest point is 113 meter and is named Albero Sole. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 35.51 (35°30'48.2112), 12.58 (12°35'5.2404).

The population is 4500 and the population density is thus on 225 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²).
