Description island Sark

The inhabited small island of Sark is part of (the island group) Channel Islands and is located in the country of Guernsey-Jersey-Man, Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 34.4 km. The nearest (main) land is France and is not the country to which the island belongs. The surface-area of the island is 6.5 km2 and is therefore 0.017 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the English Channel and the total coastal length is about 12.5 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 4.7 km by 2.5 km (maximum width). The island is North - South oriented. The highest point is 114 meter and is named Le Moulin. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 49.43 (49°25'56.4456), -2.36 (-2°21'53.1108).

The population is 600 and the population density is thus on 110 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²). The capital of the island is La Seignurie (located in the North of the island). The island is located in the South of the country Guernsey-Jersey-Man. Direct neighboring islands of Sark are (distance from central part island to central part of the neighboring islands):

1) Jethou Located 1.8 km WestNorthWest of the island.
2) Herm Located 7.9 km NorthWest of the island.
3) Lihou Located 22.3 km WestNorthWest of the island.

There are also (seasonal) ferry connections for pedestrians (-cyclists) with other (neighboring) island(s). Far as is known, there are good cycling opportunities on the island.
