Description island Sylt

The inhabited island of Sylt is part of (the island group) North Frisian Islands and is located in the country of Germany, Southern Europe. The nearest (main) land is The Netherlands and is not the country to which the island belongs. The surface-area of the island is 104.6 km2 and is therefore 0.275 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Wadden Sea and the total coastal length is about 111.4 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 38 km by 12.6 km (maximum width). The island is North-northeast - South oriented. The highest point is 53 meter and is named Uwe-Düne. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 54.91 (54°54'40.6224), 8.36 (8°21'27.0144).

The population is 20852 and the population density is thus on 210 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²). The capital of the island is Westerland (located in the West of the island). The island is located in the North-northwest of the country Germany.
