Description island Terschelling

The inhabited fairly large island of Terschelling is part of (the island group) Wadden Islands and is located in the country of The Netherlands, Western Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 13.7 km. The surface-area of the island is 87.7 km2 and is therefore 0.231 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Wadden Sea and the total coastal length is about 74.2 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 28 km by 4.1 km (maximum width). The island is West-southwest - East-northeast oriented. The highest point is 31 meter and is named Kaapsduin. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 53.4 (53°23'59.6616), 5.33 (5°20'2.1768).

The population is 4708 and the population density is thus on 53.5 inhabitants per square kilometer (compared Isle of Wight 364 inhabitants / km²). The capital of the island is West-Terschelling (located in the Southwest of the island). Other places on the island are: Midsland (Z), Hoorn (Z). The island is located in the North of the country The Netherlands. It is located in the administrative unit Province Friesland (local administrative level-name Provincie), in the Municipality Terschelling (local administrative level-name Gemeente).
