The inhabited very large island of Sardinia (local name Sardegna) is part of (the island group) Sardinia and is located in the country of Italy, Southern Europe. The distance to the mainland is about 182.8 km. The nearest (main) land is Tunesia and is not the country to which the island belongs. The surface-area of the island is 23832.5 km2 and is therefore 62.8 x times greater than the island of Isle of Wight. The island lies in the Mediterranean Sea and the total coastal length is about 1666.3 km and the dimensions of the island are approximately 210 km by 110 km (maximum width). The island is North - South oriented. The highest point is 127 meter and is named Punta La MarmoraTesta. The coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the island (center) for GPS are 40.09 (40°5'22.5816), 9.04 (9°2'8.4804).
